Ramblings

Happy New Year Blogger World! I have missed you guys dearly! I thought the first entry of 2010 should be Ramblings. I know it's your favorite. Enjoy....

This weekend I watched Gone with the Wind. I have only seen the movie once and it was 15 years ago. Needless to say, I didn't remember much about the movie. After the four hour viewing of Gone with the Wind I came to one conclusion; it does not pay to be the sweet girl. It pays to be the selfish, shrewd and vain (Wikipedia's words not mine) girl. I mean, one of the main characters, Melly, is a good girl. She's the girl we all want to be- sweet, kind, pretty, caring, blah, blah. However, (spoiler alert) she dies! But Scarlett, who marries anyone with money, lives forever! How is this fair? If this movie would have been made today, Scarlett would have died and Melly would have lived forever with her beautiful husband Ashley! He really is beautiful.

I finally used my Pioneer Woman cookbook. I made Mac-n-Cheese. It was good and full of butter. Not really. I cut the amount of butter in half. I just couldn't put a full stick of butter in the dish. But I highly recommend this recipe, with all the butter or without. Next recipe I plan to try out? Chicken Spaghetti. It looks good too.

Do you guys have frequent flier miles? I do. I have my miles with Northwest/Delta. The only reason I choose this airlines is because I flew to Japan on NW. I raked up 13,000 miles with the trip. Since I was half way to a free plane ticket I've stuck with them through the years. But you know, frequent flier programs are like bad relationships. You want to get out, but you can't because you want the free flight! Therefore, you feel stuck. See, it's like a bad relationship.

Yesterday, the OKC news announced that we will not be receiving a professional hockey team. Bummer. I was looking forward to having a professional hockey team. However, I'm not giving up. OKC is still begging for a team, so hopefully some team will get moved to OKC. Maybe we'll get a hockey team full of single guys. Hey, if Carrie Underwood can marry a hockey player than so can I!

Speaking of sports, the 1st and 2nd round of the Men's NCAA tournament will be back in OKC. I love March Madness, LOVE IT! My dad usually has tickets to the games, and generously gives me tickets to at least one set of game. It's my birthday present. However, I usually have to start begging for the tickets months in advance. This week begins the begging process. I am now taking applications for friends/seat partners. I'm thinking it will take a few months to find the perfect friend/seat partner. Please review this post if you would like to apply.

Folks, I believe I'm done rambling. Over and out.

Happy New Year! Yeah, frequent flyer miles are a bit of a curse. I have 36000 with American Airlines but I can't redeem them here in NZ. If I had that many with Air NZ I would probably have enough for a pretty good holiday. I was just looking at flight costs etc as I might be coming back to the US before too long, I do have enough for a return flight anywhere in North America at least.

I think the wisdom on miles is to go for the cheapest airfare as it will always work out better in the long run, but I think if you're doing a lot of flying (or live in a tiny isolated country like NZ) it isn't that hard to clock up a few if you travel a bit and I sort of like the idea of oneday being able to get free upgrades or something!

OK Chick, you know that I would love to go with you to the basketball games! I fit your criteria and I love basketball. Plus, my flexible schedule allows for me to go! I don't have class on Fridays! Plus my Thursday professor's wife is a trainer for the women's basketball team, so we usually have class canceled those weeks.

Yeah, I have no idea how many miles I have. I think I have over 100,000 American Airline miles and close to 60,000 Continental miles. Being an auditor is when I got the AA miles and being the "whipping" boy at the Big D allowed me many flights to Houston.

Since then I only fly Southwest, and I don't fly enough to get the free flights anymore. Someday I will.

I am really saving my miles for a trip to Europe. Hopefully someday I will have enough money again to go.

By the way, I am looking forward to Saturday!

Ok,A) Gone With the Wind is one of my all time favorite movies ( I would say #2 on my list...or maybe even #1). I think you misunderstand Scarlett. She is a woman who knows how to make things happen for herself. She knows how to work a situation to her advantage and get what she wants. However, she did not end up with her ultimate love at the end. But I have never doubted that Scarlett and Rhett somehow ended up together.

And B) I make PW Chicken Spaghetti a lot and it is quite loved around here. Yum.

PW and Paula Dean are both big on using butter, I've noticed.

Random thought: Did you know that UCO has a hockey team? They played OU in Dec. There is a guy on the UCO team that subs at my school. He had really nice teeth, so I asked him why. He said they go for his nose, not his teeth. His nose was slightly crooked.
