Me, Myself, and I

Most of my weekend was spent cleaning. I scrubbed, mopped, vacuumed, dusted, swept, filed, and threw away unneeded/unwanted things. After everything was cleaned to my satisfaction, I decided to reward myself with something fun. I settled on the idea of a movie. I figured it would be a nice relaxing reward for all my hard work. After some investigating I discovered my local dollar theater was showing Confessions of a Shopaholic. I was thrilled. I had always intended to see the movie and it was only going cost a dollar!

Sunday after church, I headed to an early showing of Confessions of a Shopaholic, by myself. Yup, I went to the movies by myself. It was my first time, and it wasn’t half bad. Actually, it was great!

I’ve been the movies many times, and I’ve always seen “that person”. You know the person I’m talking about, the one sitting in the back row, with an oversize bucket of popcorn. When I was young and silly, I always felt sorry for “that person”. I would think to myself…they had to go the movies by themselves, that’s so sad. Well, fast-forward about ten years and now I’m “that person”. Except, it wasn’t bad, it didn’t feel awkward, and I actually enjoyed myself. I have to say going to the movies by yourself is pretty empowering; talk about feeling like an independent woman! I mean, if you can go the movies by yourself you can pretty much do anything, right?

It was an enjoyable Sunday afternoon. By the way, my movie only cost $.50! I was pretty pumped at all the money I had saved. I was so pumped that I went to Target and bought a new purse.

That was an inspiring tale, OKC. You should become a motivational speaker. I mean, I'm not gonna go out and go to a movie by myself or anything. But I just might go to Target.

Ha. I go to the movies by myself all the time! :)

And, did the purse cost more than the money you saved? That may be important.

I LOVE going to the movies by myself!! Really, it is a treat I have come to love and cherish. I never did it until I had kids, but now my me time is very precious. Plus, I jump at the chance to see any movie that isn't animated or consists of talking animals.

You go, OK Chick!

And you had a delicious and healthy dinner cooked up by me!

Thanks Bone. I'm scheduling events as we speak so get in your request.

Scotty- Well the purse was 20% off, which was good. SO between the 50 cent movie and the discount purse I felt pretty good.

Emily- Really? I had no idea. When my weekends slow down, I might start going to the movies every Sunday afternoon. It's pretty nice.

Holly- Of course. Dinner Saturday night was great, and I'm very thankful you invited me over.

I haven't been by myself since I was your age. ;) but it was fun. At first like you I was very nervous, but once the movie started I didn't care at all. It was fun.

I'm glad you had a great time and enjoyed the movie...and 20% off on a new purse! Score!!!

I can remember the first time I went shopping by myself. I was really nervous but now I prefer to go by myself. I think this might stand try about the movie. It is on my to-do before I die list.

I weirdly like movies by myself too. There's just something about having no one making little comments in my ear or checking to see if I'm laughing or wanting to know what I thought as soon as I walk out of the theater that lets me enjoy the movie more.

Yeah for you for trying new things!

I've gone to the movies by myself for years, and it sort of makes good sense to me (since you're there to watch a movie--not have meaningful conversation, etc.). Of course, I like doing a lot of things by myself.
