Today's, Friday Fun Facts has turned into my Soapbox

Excuse me, excuse me. Can everyone hear me? I have a secret I’m ready to confess. Please, lean in so you can hear....
Twitter. I don’t understand the point of Twitter. I don’t get the phonon. Yup, no clue. What is it? Wikipedia defines Twitter as…

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read other users' updates known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length which are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have subscribed to them (known as followers).

Personally, I still don’t get what’s so great about Twitter. Maybe I don’t get it because I know I do not need Twitter. I already have Myspace, Facebook, and this blog. I feel that’s being plenty social. Heck, I’m not even this social in real life! But even though I don’t understand the craze, others understand.

Today, Queen of TV, Oprah, has decided to become a follower. I know this because my favorite morning TV news show and EVERY MORNING DJ in OKC mentioned it on their shows. It was everyone’s top story. When I first heard the story I thought to myself…cool Oprah is going to cause something else turn to gold. But then I kept hearing the story, over and over again! Is there not enough news worthy stories in the world to report, besides Oprah joining Twitter? I’m fine with people joining Twitter, but does it need to be a top news story? Did we fix the economy? Are the pirates that occupy the sea captured? Do we have a winner for this season’s American Idol? Is the stock market back on track? No. The answer to all these questions is No! Why in heaven’s name, do we care that today Oprah is going to send her first Tweet between the hours of 4 and 5? We shouldn’t care, but we do care, because we have become a society that has to be in everyone’s business! *Sigh* I just don’t get all this, and I probably never will. I suppose that is ok, since I still have Myspace, Facebook, and this blog.

OMG :) Don't even get me started on twitter... it is so stupid and pointless. No one cares what people are doing 24/7. And no one cares what even Oprah the great is doing 24/7.

I don't get it either. I have friends who get it...more than Facebook or blogging (weird, I know!) but just as many friends who don't get it too.

sigh!

I don't have an account, I probably won't sign up for a good while seeing as I don't have the ability to send tweets via mobil...I thought that was the point of Twitter, but apparently you can use it w/o the phone.

Oh well.

I'll still hang out with you here. :-*

BTW: I'm thinking you don't get Facebook much either. ;) That's okay, your blog is enough.

I don't get it either! I signed up for an account a few months ago, because of all the hype - and yet, it seems so pointless. I haven't "tweeted" at all.

My dad has an account and loves it - now I get to read updates like : "drinking a cup of joe and about to head to the gym" - now that is exciting, up-to-the-minute, info!

A couple of people have tried to get me to Twitter, but I haven't yet.

I'm not even a good Facebooker. And my MySpace is on life support. I'm about to pull the plug.

You will assimilate into twitter. Jut wait. :) I use it professionally and it's very useful for networking and asking questions.

I do not need to tweet and twitter too.

In Twitter's defense.... it's kind of cool. I only joined because May made me, and even then only reluctantly, because she was threatening to fly out and punch me, but it is nice to get brief updates from people I care about. There are some serious abusers: "I'm walking into the bathroom now! I'm peeing now! Wiping!" That's just TMI. But most people just write funny little updates, and it's kind of fun.

I do Facebook, but like Anne said, some people just take Twitter too far. My wife Twitters, even getting the Tweets (I think that's the PC term for them) on her phone, which seems to be constantly buzzing these days.

I sent her a text, then called her half an hour later because she hadn't responded. Because the Tweets almost constantly set off her phone, so now she just ignores them, which meant she ignored the buzz from my incoming Text.

What's the point of getting Tweets on your phone if you're going to ignore them?

I haven't given in to Twitter yet, but from what I gathered it is just the status updates from Facebook.

That is starting to appeal to me; because, dear Facebook, I can care less if you took the 80's TV quiz that says of you would be Arnold from Different Strokes, that you found a hidden Easter egg on somebody's profile, that your pirate crew suddenly became ninjas, or that you just won a large sum of fake money while wasting your time playing online poker with a bunch of Norwegians!

But then again, if I did twitter I wouldn't follow my friends, just maybe people like my favorite writers and authors. People I assume might have something interesting to 'tweet' about every once in awhile instead of updating me every 30 minutes to tell the world how often they went tinkle today.

Oh and hi. I am just going around reading and commenting on the blogs of people who read and comment on other blogs that I read and comment on.

I refuse to get on Twitter. Who wants to know everything I'm doing every minute of the day, anyway?! I mean, who cares if I just ate green beans and I put too much pepper on them? That's not very exciting at all! Perhaps I just don't want everyone knowing how boring my life actually is :)
