The family of three potatoes

Thanksgiving is so close I can taste the food. Can't you?

I love Thanksgiving. It's one of my favorite holidays, possibly my favorite.

You know, I kind of feel sorry for Thanksgiving. It's the lost holiday. The rushed holiday.

This year I'm going to dedicate a few posts to Thanksgiving. I want Thanksgiving to know I care.

Today's post is about food, which you all know I enjoy.

My family, like most, always has way too much food on Thanksgiving Day. This is why I run a race before I eat lunch. Our lunch menu usually includes your traditional dressing, salad, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, rolls, turkey, and three different types of potatoes. We have mashed potatoes, my aunt Betty's potatoes, and sweet potatoes. My favorite Thanksgiving food is the sweet potatoes, with my aunt's potatoes in a close second.

But the sweet potatoes are amazing. My mom puts the tiny marshmallows on top of the sweet potatoes. Does your mom put marshmallows on top? Some people put pecans on top of the sweet potatoes, instead of tiny marshmallows. But I don't like pecans, so my mom will put pecans on one half and marshmallows on the other half. Folks, that's some strong love.

Doesn't that look delicious?

Today, I would like to hear about your favorite Thanksgiving dish? Come on, play along. It's boring to just hear about my favorite Thanksgiving dish.

Can you eat sweet potatoes without marshmellows? (J/K) We put them on ours too....this year we are spending Friday-Wednesday in Edmond, then coming back home and I am cooking Thanksgiving for Jeremy's family....luckily his family is not as big, or does not have as much food as my family does for Thanksgiving...I however will not be running a race before lunch, I'm sure they'll play basketball but I have two rugrats to watch!

our family does NOT like them with marshmallows. Instead we get the yams in syrup and add butter and brown sugar.
I won't eat that stuff as I don't like super sweet foods. I can't even handle just a baked sweet potato. blech :p But DH & DD love them. So I'll make the sweet potatoes because I love my family...and I'll have squash. :D

My favorite is my mom's scalloped potatoes. They are a baked dish full of cheesy goodness. Yum! Hope you have a great holiday!

So are you doing the Turkey Trot? I've decided I'm against races that try to think up clever names that both have the same beginning letter. Actually I guess I'm just sort of against races. I should probably put back on my running shoes.

You're not running the Route 66, though, right? I will be thinking and praying for you as I'm running! It will comfort me knowing you're suffering alongside me :)

I don't like sweet potatos BUT I saw Jessica Seinfeld make chicken nuggest with them yesterday on Rachel Ray (supposedly they are one of the healthiest foods) and now I want to try it. Maybe I would like this with chicken. Hmm...

I probably like the dressing most, because I rarely if ever get it any other time of the year.

Then banana pudding and cherry pie, if anybody makes one.

I'm REALLY hungry now.
