New Favorite

Blogger World, I have lots of favorites.

You know this about me.

I'm sure you get tired of hearing about my favorites. It's ok, you can be honest with me. However, before you get too honest, just remember that I've looked at thousands of pictures of your darling children and never say a word.

Today, I'm here to proclaim my new food favorite. Are you ready?

Figs.

Do you know about figs?

I've actually never tasted a real non processed fig. However, Google provided me with this picture, in case you were unsure of figs.

Ok, some quick facts about figs, curiosity of Wikipedia because that's were all information is stored. Yes, it is. Don't argue with me.
*Figs are one of the highest plant sources of calcium and fiber.
*Figs have a laxative effect and contain many antioxidants.
*Although commonly referred to as a fruit, the fig fruit is actually the flower of the tree, known as an inflorescence.

Now, if you are like me and live in the Butter & Cream capitol of the world, it might be a bit tough to find a fresh fig, hence why I've never had a fresh fig. However, one thing the Butter & Cream capitol of the world do have... is jam. We have all kinds of jams here, including Fig Jam.
The past few weeks I've been spreading fig jam on my Turkey Sandwiches and hot bread. It's heaven folks! HEAVEN!

I recommend that everyone try a fig today- either fresh, dried, or in the jam form.

We had a fig tree in our backyard when we were growing up. Yup, we were lucky :) Figs are delicious.

when I was a kid the neighbor's yard had a fig tree. They never did anything with them so when we were over we would eat them off the tree.
When we went to Williamsburg VA the Governor's Palace had a bunch of fig trees in the garden. My family looked at me like I didn't belong to them because I was all gaga over the figs! no I didn't swipe any figs off the governor's trees...I don't remember how to tell if they're ripe anymore. :(
