Blind Date Review

Fried Food Lover Who Runs, who I will call FFLWR for short, and I went out for our much anticipated blind date. So without farther ado…here is the FFLWR Date Review. Folks, brace yourself, its pretty exciting stuff. Ok, not really but I had to say something for you to keep reading.

Well, we decided to meet at a restaurant for dinner, due to our offices being so far apart. Oh wait, before I get into this let me back up to my restaurant choices. Earlier in the week I told FFLWR to email me three restaurant suggestions. He agreed and sent me the following choices; Applebee’s, Olive Garden, and a place on the lake. I’m not a huge Applebee’s or Olive Garden fans so by default, I selected the place on the lake. It’s not like it’s my favorite place either, but at least you have a view of the lake. OK, now you are up to speed.

I arrived at the restaurant about 5 minutes late. I didn’t want to get there early, and then resort to sitting in my car until the time, so I thought 5 minutes late would be perfect timing. I walk into the restaurant and see no sign of a single guy who could possibly be waiting on me to arrive. Actually, the only person waiting was a 60 year old man, which obviously wasn’t FFLWR. You know, waiting on someone at restaurants is always awkward. I always feel like I have to prove to the hostess that I’m actually meeting someone. While waiting, I tried to be as casual as possible. I walked over to the dead shrimp display, to seem interested in dead shrimp, but I still felt stupid so I just went and sat down. I finally just accepted that he was late and picked up a newspaper to read. After I read the whole newspaper, he still hadn’t showed up. I was starting to panic- OH MY GOSH I’M BEING STOOD UP; THE HOSTESS IS LAUGHING AT ME! Oh wait no she’s not, she’s flirting with a hot waiter. Stupid college girls with their perfect legs!

After 15 minutes of sitting there like a dork. I start thinking exit plans. Do I just walk out? Do I tell someone? Do I escape through the bathroom window? Does this place have a bathroom window? As I was contemplating the bathroom window scenario, FFLWR walked in the restaurant. FFWL didn’t look exactly like the picture that was sent to me (he looked better), but let’s just say I was able to tell it was him.

The rest of the evening was a pretty basic first date. We talked about work and running most of the time. He’s a hard-core runner, so I took full advantage of his knowledge. I asked him lots of running questions. All-in-all it wasn’t a bad experience. He was a really nice guy, and as always I enjoyed meeting someone new. Will we go out again? Probably not, but it was still an ok night.

I'd venture to guess with all your running that your legs are close to perfect, too. Every runner I have ever known have had great legs.

TC-HAHAHA! Now THAT comment is funny. Really, that's funny.

You didn't tell me he was late! He didn't have a chance.

Did he pay? I love going on dates at the place by the lake, if I'm thinking of the same one that used to be another place on the lake.

Also, I am going to have to agree with TC. You have great feet, so I can deduce that you have great legs.

PPS: Don't count Revenge of the Nerds out. Nerds are wayyyyy better for your longterm needs in most cases. Life is never boring with a nerd by your side.

NERDS NERDS NERDS!

Ha, so nerd guy trumped your 5 minutes late plan by being 20 minutes late. That's funny.

I enjoyed your date review. Maybe more than you enjoyed the actual date :) Oh, and I'd have gone for Olive Garden.

oh man, you hit the nail on the head with the awkwardness of being the first to show up for a date.

LB- Yes, he did pay. I haven't counted FFLWR out. I just figure he will not call/email me again, but what do I know. And by the way, we ate at the place you are thinking.

Bone- I'm glad you enjoyed the post. I just like Olive Garden's bread sticks, so I wouldn't have liked dinner too much if I went to OG.

DJ- Hello! I'm happy you are alive. It's been awhile.

I once had a blind date that was so late showing up (he got lost) that the hostess started trying to make excuses for him so I wouldn't feel like such a loser. And when he did show up, she whispered to me "Thank Goodness". ;o)

PS: I went on a date at the Former Place on the Lake with a "man" who was a major Drama Queen. Now THAT was awkward!

Please tell me he apologised profusely for being so late and had a decent excuse?!

If he didn't that's it, don't care how nice he is, you definitely don't want to date someone who doesn't see your time as valuable. And if he's this late for a first date imagine how unreliable he'd be in your were actually going out!!

For those of us that are single, we all know you don't just throw someone out on the first date because they are late or it's awkward. Maybe his dog died and he had to bury him before dinner. Tardiness is unacceptable but so is being picky to the point of obnoxiousness. Go out with him again and I dare you to make the first move. Most of the time both parties want the 2nd date but nobody makes the move.

Inquiring minds wanna know...why was he late?

OK Chick said...

Yes, he apologized. He was late because he had a meeting. I didn't get mad at him for being late. I understand meetings go late. I was just freaking out because I thought he wasn't going to show up.

Anonymous- I'd go out with him again, but I haven't heard from him so I'm thinking he wasn't into the date, which is fine.

Thanks for sharing your story. I've been anxiously waiting to hear the details since I have no life.

He was late! Shocker. I'm not normally a late person but I usually run late to dates for some reason... but waiting for a guy... I did that at a bar in a busy restaurant once on a Saturday night and I didn't really enjoy it. That was the guy who bought a whole bottle of Champagne to drink. For someone who is not really a drinker... hmmm...

I'm with TC.

and really? Olive Garden and Applebees?

OK Chick said...

Scotty- THANK YOU on agreeing with me! I felt like a jerk turning my nose up to OG and Applebee's, but there are so many good places to eat besides those chains. Nothing wrong with those places, I'd just rather eat at a locally owned place. But that's just me.

Scotty said...

haha, yes. Nothing wrong with a chain. But you have to save that for a 'I have a coupon for there' moment after you know the person a little better :)
