Adventures in Redbox

A few months ago I wanted to rent a movie. It was a Friday night, I had no life, and nothing was on TV. If you ask me, components for a movie rental night. Upon renting my movie at Blockbuster, I was informed that it was going to cost $5 to rent the movie. FIVE DOLLARS! Folks, I was renting 17 Again. I was 100% sure 17 Again was not going to be worth $5! But since it was a Friday night, I had no life, and nothing was on TV- I chalked up the $5 for 17 Again. Oh and by the way, 17 Again is not worth $5!

Ok, so fast forward to Friday night. I decided to rent a movie for the evening. Since Blockbuster has decided to start charging an arm and leg for renting movies, my only option was Redbox. It was my first time to experience the Redbox. The experience went like this:

I arrived at Walgreens to check out a movie. I waited patiently in line for my turn. While in line, I watch the people in front of me so I would know the Redbox process. It was finally my turn, after 5 minutes of waiting. I approached the screen and touched it to start the movie deciding process. I looked over the first page of choices, none sparked my interest. Next page. Wait, how do you turn the page? I look for an arrow. Nope. I look for a button that says next, no luck. Heck, I even scan the screen with my finger like it's an iPhone, no luck and I looked stupid. I began to panic, people started forming a rather large line behind me. I turned to the woman behind me for help. She looks at me like I have three heads. Finally, a woman my mom's age ask if I needed help. Sheepishly I reply yes. She helped me find Ghost of Girlfriends Past. Please don't judge my movie selection.
After the work of finding a movie I was ready to go pay and leave! I punched the check out button with my finger. I tried to scan my credit card but Redbox would not except my card. I tried again, and again, and again. Finally, a rather good looking guy, from the back of the line, came to rescue me. He must have had the magic touch, because he was able to get my credit card to scan. I thanked him and went back to looking at the ground, or the screen, basically anywhere but this guys face. Did I mention I looked like death because I had just finished my 3 aerobics classes. Single ladies, never go to Redbox without applying make-up! NEVER! When my movie spit out, I quietly thanked the guy and I rushed away from Redbox machine.

All-in-all an ok Redbox experience. Ghost of Girlfriends Past was alright, but it was only a $1!

thanks for sharing your experience. I have considered the Redbox but never tried it because I had the same fear.
I do hope that now you know exactly how to do it and can share your wisdom with others.

I'm also so glad you only had to pay $1 for this experience.

Renee- I recommend going during the day when no one is around. Then once you have mastered Redbox then you can go at night. :)

I'm not a big fan of Blockbuster, not since I returned a movie one evening and the next time they told me I still had a movie out. Yup, it was the one I'd returned a couple of days before. Lucky it was still on the shelf.

Then there was the time I returned a movie and the evening clerks left it for the morning clerks,. Of course when they scanned it in it was late so they tried to charge me overdue fees.

Blockbuster had some really shady practices and I don't like them. Redbox is much better.

Cap'n John- I agree. I'm not a Blockbuster fan either. My movie rental place was Randy's (locally owned), but they recently went out of business. When this happened I was forced to use Blockbuster. I just hated to use them, and they were expensive, which is why I tried Redbox.
Also, the Tim Tams I bought the other day do not taste like the ones in Australia. I was so bummed!

I love Redbox!! I recently rented that same movie on a Friday night from the local Redbox. I just like only paying a buck for a movie. I mean, really. Who really needs to keep a movie for 7 days!!

You should have flirted with him! I sometimes get more attention with frizzy hair and no make-up. I don't know why, but some guys seem to prefer that look.

TC & Jen- I needed you girls there to encourage me! :) But I did look bad.

Jen and OK Chick, just listen to Sammy Kershaw's "She don't know she's beautiful" and it might (maybe) help you understand why guys like that (slightly) messed up hair, no make-up, jeans w/ flannel shirt look.

Normally I just check my movies out from the library. We get to keep them 7 days and they're free...and if we goof and forget to return them on time it's only 50 cents per day late fee.

Renee- I've tried to do that but the library has horrible movies!
