Keep It Spiritual Make It Fun

This morning I wrote and mailed a letter to Sister #2. This week she’s having lots of fun at church camp. As I wrote her letter I was reminded of all the fun times I had at church camp. Growing up I loved church camp! It was my favorite thing in the summer. After school was out for the summer I started getting excited about church camp. Heck, my friends and I would start talking camp outfits the whole week before camp! It was the highlight of the youth group summer, and mine as well.

My church camp wasn’t anything fancy. It wasn’t like my Baptist friends church camp. They had a swimming pool as there’s. Nope, my camp was ghetto fabulous! I remember the first time my mom dropped one of us off at camp. Sister #1 was the first of us three to attend church camp. When my parents pulled up to the camp, my mom was scared to death to leave her there and she was positive that Sister #1 would have a horrible time. But my mom was wrong….not only did Sister #1 have fun, but a few weeks later I attended and had a blast. But we didn't need a fancy church camp. We still had fun and made life long friends. I have camp friends that I still talk to almost weekly. It's those friendships that will last forever, or I hope they will.

Since 1994 my parents have been making a two hour drive to drop one of their daughters off at church camp, sometimes they made the drive more than once a year. But I am thankful that they make the drive for my sisters and I. Church camp will always be a great memory for me. Someday I hope to drop my kids off at church camp where they can create their own memories.

Friday Fun Fact

While eating lunch, I sit here trying to think of something to post. I’m debating between two topics; how much my new set of textbooks cost or what I had for lunch. Needless to say, those were boring topics. I mean, I don’t even want to write about those things.

Since I couldn't think of anything creative I turned to my BFF Google. I was disappointed that Google had nothing to offer today. After few bites of my sandwich, 3 chips, and a few sips from my V8 Splash, I decided to turn to my favorite sitting in class site-Cosmo. When clicking around I discovered a page called...Conversation Starters. I was thought to myself....oh this could be helpful. Blogger World, here is today's Conversation Starter....

You can now measure your pup's cleverness with the PoochIQ.com Dog Intelligence Kit, which tests such things as whether your canine can remember where you've hidden a treat after he's been taken out of a room for 30 seconds.

What? This is stupid. Why would anyone even mention this in a conversation? I can just imagine some goofy girl walking up to a conversation and spouting off Cosmo's Conversation Starter, trying to be smart. You can't see me right now, but I'm so rolling my eyes. I should have just posted how my new textbooks cost over $300.

Strike One!

Rats! I had a streak. I was doing so well. I had lasted 24 days. Well not a whole 24 days, because I’m only posting M-F. However, I had made it to the 24th day of the month; and then I blew the streak. Yesterday, June 25th, I forgot to post something. I know! I’m such a ding dong. I remembered at 11:00pm, and needless to say my butt was not getting out of bed to put something on my blog. Even if I have this cool challenge- A Post A Day After the Month of May-M-F only.

It’s not like there is a lack of things to say. Life shattering things are happening in my life. For example, there’s Weekend Updates, the return of Guy #2, the date Guy #2 and I had Tuesday night, and the random crap I talk about from day to day…like food and running. See, those are life shattering things! LIFE SHATTERING.

As I sit here, chomping on ice, I feel that I owe my dedicated readers a real post. I think to make up for skipping yesterday I will give you three post in one. How creative am I? SO hold on folks, life shattering news is about to appear on your screen.

Weekend Updates
Fun weekend in Ark. The trip down to Ark was fun because Sister #1, Sister #2, and I rode together. I realized 10 minutes away from my house that I had forgot my swimsuit. Instead of being smart and turning around to get it, I decided to just stop at Old Navy for a new one. Stop judging me; I wanted a new swimsuit.
The trip to Ark was for my cousin’s wedding. This cousin is not to be confused with The Cousin. I guess we could call this cousin….Cousin #3. Anyway, Cousin #3 had a short, relaxed, beautiful wedding. I love short weddings. You can bet your bottom my wedding will be short; none of this- singing 50 songs, lighting 30 candles, and staring at each other on stage. Nope, we are in and we are out! But Cousin #3 got married in a cool old church in a town called Old Washington. It was the capital of the Confederate States…so that was kind of cool. The Fam took some cool pictures, but sadly they are not on my computer yet.

The Return of Guy #2
So remember it’s the Year of Yes? And remember that when Holly and I started YOY I was asked out by 3 guys…Guy #1, Guy #2, and Guy #3? I know, not so creative on the names, but it makes it easier to keep up with everyone. Anyway, are we all on the same page? Surely, you have not forgotten about this? I mean, how many post have I written about this? I’m going to assume you haven’t forgotten. Anyway, Guy #2 has returned to the USA. He was the one that asked me out and then fled the country to be a missionary. I’m not saying I had anything to do with decision to go be a missionary. Promise. But I do think it’s weird that after he asked me out, he doesn’t just skip town he leaves the freakin’ country. I’m kidding!

Date with Guy #2
Since Guy #2 returned we went on our date. I must say, I have never been asked out by a guy and then 6 months later we finally get to go on the date. But it was a good date. It was nice for us to catch up, since he’s been out of the country. We had lots to catch up on…my life is constantly changing. Ok, not really. Anyway, fun date!

Alright, I think that is everything. Blogger World, you should be caught up on my life.

Girls just want to have fun...

Monday night Sister #1, our friend Casie, and I went to a concert. It was my June concert in my summer concert series. I must say it was a different concert. We went to the True Colors concert to see Cyndi Lauper, B-52s, and Joanna Jet. Now if you do not know what True Colors is, Google it. No matter what your opinion is on this issue is irrelevant. The point of this post is about the music and the fellow concert goers. Here are some highlights from the concert….

Celebrities. Yes, Cyndia Lauper, B-52, and Joanna Jet were cool to see. It was even cool to see that dude from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, he was the host. However, I think I was most star struck by standing next to local DJs. It’s odd to listen to someone every afternoon and then meet them. Isn’t it weird how DJs never look like how you imagine them?

Bras. Ladies wear them! It doesn’t matter your age or your size, but they need to be wore. I’m sorry but that built in bra in your tiny shirt is not cutting it!!!

B-52s and Joanna Jet. These two groups can put on a show. I was impressed. Imaginary high five for the first person that can tell me how old Joanna Jet is? I’m really asking, I’m too lazy to Google the answer. But I know she has to be in her 50s, right? Anyway, she’s a small lady, and good at the guitar! The B-52s were fun, but I really didn’t know much of their music. I thought I knew more of their songs…I was wrong.

Cyndi Lauper is against smoking. I know, who would have thought? I was so impressed that she made many comments about smoking being bad for you, and out of style. I gained a new respect for Cyndi Lauper.

Great people watching concert. This was better than the airport and 1,000 better than OK & Texas State Fair combined!

All-in-all the June concert was loads of fun. It was a great night to sit outside and listen to good music!

A Shout Out

I have a big ole’ Weekend Update I’m going to post for you guys but until I have time, I thought I’d take the time to give a special shout out to someone.

Today’s shout out goes out to my friend ML. This morning he called me from Japan. He lives there along with my friends Elaine and Kendon. All three of them are having the time of their life teaching English to Japanese students. It’s a glamorous life they live, while I hold down the fort in OK. I’m ok with it…I get to eat food and they eat rice and fish everyday. Actually, the food in Japan is awesome! I know because I gained about five pounds when I was there for one month.

Anyway, this morning was the first time ML and I have chatted via phone since he’s been in Japan. He was the last person in the world I expected to call me at 8:00am Monday morning. I was so shocked. I kept thinking to myself…is ML really calling me? By the time the shock wore off, we were exchanging good-byes. But it was great to visit with him. We didn’t get to talk for long because I was at work and he needed to sleep, but we did establish that he’s sending me some socks. I love socks from Japan. I have 3 pair and they are my favorite socks! I’m not getting too excited about my Japanese socks arriving in my mailbox anytime soon. He promised to send me socks 15 months ago, and nothing! We will see if he surprises me again. Maybe since I posted this on my blog he will be forced to send me socks!

But I just thought I’d share with everyone in Blogger World that my friend ML called me from Japan and it made my day! So ML…this shout out is for you!

An all time low...

Today, I'm proud to report that I hit an all time lazy. I didn't think I was a lazy person, but I guess I am...

This afternoon, after work, I was walking towards my car and punching my remote unlock botton to unlock my car door. Normally, the car door unlocks while I walk up to the car. Well today, it didn't unlock right off the bat, so I tried again, and again, and again. I tried untl I'd reach my car. Now a normal person would say screw it and put the key in the car door to unlock the door. However, me being the smart girl, stood outside my door (in the hot sun) pushing the button until it would unlock. Yes Blogger World, I am that lazy! While standing outside my car, I actually thought it was normal to stand there punching the stupid remote to unlock my door! I didn't realize how lazy I was until I final got into my car. I thought to myself...wow I just wasted 30 seconds trying to unlock my door with a stupid remote. Why didn't I just use the key? It's a good thing I still have another month before I get that MBA!

Bridget Jones is my hero!

Tuesday night I came in from class to find Sister #1 watching Bridget Jones Diary II. I watched the last thirty minutes of the funny movie and realized Bridge Jones is my hero! Actually, I think Bridget and I are very similar Ok, well minus the smoking, big boobs, and two hot guys fighting after me. Hey, I didn't say we were twins. But I did decide that if my life could be written into a chick flick I would want Bridget Jones II to be my movie. It seems that Bridget has everything figured out. So Bridget Jones, this post is for you.

Who cares what others think
While watching the movie I realized, instead of giving up when I encounter bad luck I should push forward. Bridget did and it worked out for her! Who cares what people think of me! I spend too much time wondering what others think of me. If I want to do something or wear something and it doesn’t go as well as planned…who cares! I mean, who cares if I get stuck in a forgein prison for trying to smuggle drugs.

Making the Best
I should make the best of every situation. If I'm stuck in prison, which hopefully will NEVER happen, I should teach my fellow inmates how to sing Madonna just like Bridget Jones. I should always look for the good, not think about the bad.

Love
Bridget has it going on with love. Have you seen the two guys that go after her? If it doesn't work out with one guy...wait around for the next guy. Bridget knows that there is always something better waiting around the corner!

Weight
Eat whatever you want! Curves are better! See, this is why I like Bridget. She's my kind of gal.

The Father of 3 Girls

Sunday was Father's Day. I'm blessed with an awesome dad, but you do have to wonder what the man did in young years to be blessed with three girls! The poor man never had a son! Anyway, here are some of the things my dad received from his 3 girls + my mom on Father's Day:

Egyptian Cotton Sheets
Fly Swatter
Dish Towels
Coffee for his single coffee maker
Napkins
Body Spray
Trip to Austin for a race

The lesson here is
: be nice in your young age; otherwise God will punish you with three girls who buy you sheets, dish towels, and body spray as Father's Day presents. HAHA! I'm kidding my dad loved his presents. He actually fell asleep, while watching Sister #2 and I play Guitar Hero, covered in his new sheets!
Sidenote: please do not feel sorry for my dad b/c of the girls in his house. He plays golf, snow skis, and runs all the time. Oh and now he's biking...so the man gets plenty of guy time.

Day 1

This morning my first day of Booty Camp. No, that’s really the name of the camp. HA! I have two words for you…HOLY COW! Right now my whole body hurts, especially my booty! When I was walking up the stairs to my office, I thought I was going to have to stop for a break between floors 4 and 5! I didn’t even hurt this bad after the ½ marathon, and that was running for over 2 hours! GEEZZ!

I feel that I'm in good shape. Well I thought I was in pretty good shape. I have the capability to run, go to aerobics, and walk all in one day, which I do often. See that's being in good shape! So you would think, a Booty Camp put on by Jazzercise wouldn’t be tough. I guess I was WRONG! I signed up thinking this would be tough but not gut retching tough. Heavens, I have 4 weeks of this crap! I better lose some freakin’ weight and start looking like her!

Friday Fun Facts

We finally made it to Friday! Man, it’s been a long week. In honor of Friday, I thought I’d post another Fun Friday Facts. I like all the F’s, it’s catchy you know? This week I thought I’d do facts about myself. Again, this is my blog so I can post whatever! I bet you didn’t know this, but you really don’t know much about me. Ok, so you know a lot about me but….oh never mind, The Post a Day after the Month of May is harder than I thought it would be, and I just don’t have anything to say today. SOOO here are some Friday Fun Facts about OK Chick….
When I was younger, I hated the beach. I had no desire to go to the beach...I just wanted a pool.
I LOVE ice. I chomp on it all the time. At work we have the small ice, which is great for chomping. I know it’s bad for my teeth. My mom points that out every time I chomp ice in front of her. But the funny thing, she does it too!

My dad, Sister #1, and I work in the same industry. It’s not odd to see my dad walk past my office on a given day.

Despite the fact that I’ve ran a jillion races, I still get nervous before every race.

I have never gone out and bought a lottery ticket.

One of my favorite songs of all time is a country song. I actually converted Sister #1 and Sister #2 to loving the song. It’s the fishing song…..

You and me going fishing in the dark,

Lying on our backs and counting the stars

Where the cool grass grows.

Down by the river in the full moon light,

Well be fallin in love in the middle of the night

Just movin slow...

I believe that The Cosby’s Show is the best family TV show that has ever aired. Ok, besides that show Kirk Cameron was in…that was pretty good too.

I’m bad about wearing one pair of earrings for a month, before taking them out and wearing a different pair. Sometimes I’ll go a month without wearing earrings. Right now I'm taking a break from earrings.

The other day I said… “Well that’s just the way I roll”. It sounded weird for me to say this phrase. I don’t know if I’ll say it again. It was my first time to say it, maybe I need to say it a few more times before I make my decision.

I have been entertaining the Blogger World since 2005. My first blog had two years worth of post on it, and I decided to delete the blog. The next day I started this one, which is exactly like the old one minus all the post. I think I missed blabbing to a bunch of strangers.

I believe this is all the Fun Facts I'll be sharing today. I must get to my job!

152,000,000

This is the amount of money American citizens donate to charities in a given year. We give more money to charities than any other place on the planet. It is reported that 4 out of 5 people send their hard earned money to charities. It is predicted that this trend will continue for many years, because we are teaching our children that it is important to give back. Children are seeing the most important examples do good things for others, and not expect anything in return.

Last night, in class, when I heard this information I was so proud. I was proud to say I’m an American. I was proud to be part of this country; a country that has been giving to others since Plymouth Rock. Sometimes we forget that good things and good people are still in our country. There are people that are advocating for a cure for cancer, helping children, abused women, and finding food/shelter for the homeless. There are people out there that care for others.

Recently, it seems like all we hear in the media are bad things that have been happening to the world, our country, and to each other. What the media forgets to talk about is the good things that are happening around us. People are trying to change the world to make it a better place for us and generations to come.

Today, I tip my hat to the 4 out of 5 Americans who donate to charities. If this is you, continue giving to your charity. You are making a difference to someone.

Look at the stars, look how they shine for you...

Right now I’m listening to Coldplay. I like Coldplay. I wouldn’t say they are my favorite band but they on the Top 10 List….maybe Top 5. My favorite song is Yellow. I know it’s everyone’s favorite and one of their most popular songs. However, I like the song because it reminds of going here:
I always find it amazing that a song can easily take you back to a time, you haven’t thought about in years. A song can spark a memory causing you to remember the whole situation. It could be a good memory or a bad memory. But if you are like me, you hate all songs that have the bad memories attached. Luckily for me, every time I hear Yellow I think of great memories.

Friday Fun Facts

I bet you didn't know these things; and if you tell me you already knew this stuff, you're lying. Kidding! Happy Friday to everyone.

The first couple to be shown in bed together on prime time TV was Fred and Wilma Flintstone.

Many years ago in Scotland, a new game was invented. It was ruled "Gentlemen Only...Ladies Forbidden"...and thus the word GOLF entered into the English language.

In the 1400's a law was set forth that a man was not allowed to beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb. Hence we have "the rule of thumb"

Every day more money is printed for Monopoly than the US Treasury.

Men can read smaller print than women can; women can hear better.

Coca-Cola was originally green.

It is impossible to lick your elbow.

The State with the highest percentage of people who walk to work: Alaska

111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321

Playlist for Life

Do you have a list of songs that get you through life; a playlist that is programmed onto your iPod with the title LIFE? Well I have such a list.

When I was in Middle School/High School my parents watched the show Ally McBeal. I loved the show for a number of reasons. The mature adolescence I was, thought the show was written brilliantly; and at this time I knew a lot about TV. Seriously, I watched lots of TV as a kid/teenager. I could recognize a great show! Anyway, my favorite character on the show was John Cage. John was a bit of an odd character. He had repeated scenes with him in the bathroom dancing to Al Green. He claimed the songs gave him confidence to squash all the challenges of life, including asking hot girls out on dates.

After watching John Cage rock out in the bathroom and win court cases, I decided I needed to adopt this philosophy for life. At the age of 15, I started compiling my own Soundtrack for Life, but now I call it my Playlist for Life. These are the songs that make me feel like I can take on the world. They make me feel like a million bucks! These are the songs that help me get through a bad day, or bad month if life is real bad. SOOOO without farther a due here is a sampling of my Playlist for Life….

Touch My Body- Mariah Carrey…Ok, totally kidding. Here’s the real list….

Bad to the Bone- George Thorogood and the Destroyers
Uptown Girl- Billy Joel
Island in the Sun- Weezer
Rollercoaster of Love- Red Hot Chili Peppers
Play that Funky Music- Wild Cherry
Call My Name- Charlotte Church
Footloose- Kenny Loggins
Party for Two- Shania Twain
Thriller- M. Jackson
1-2-3-4- Coolio- hey I never said the list was made up of great songs!
Tide is High- Blondie

These are my people

In continuing The Post a Day After the Month of May Challenge- M-Fs ONLY, I thought I’d post something about myself. I’m sure you guys are thinking….all this women does is talk about herself. Good call. But today I’m going to talk about one of my hobbies. Again you are thinking….good lord if we have to hear about running or food one more time I’m done with this blog. You are making great points in your head. I hear ya! However, today’s post is about my love for Jazzercise. Shut up, every one of you, I can feel you judging me. I am proud to admit I am a Jazzercise fanatic.

Ok, before we go on any farther let’s get one thing straight. Jazzercise is not a Jane Fonda type aerobics class. The people that attend Jazzercise do not wear leotards. Better yet, the people of Jazzercise do not wear any type of clothing that is from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, or 90’s. This includes sweat bands, head bands, arm bands, scrunchy socks, or any other type of weird clothing that is way outdated. Actually, Jazzercise promotes very stylish work-out attire. See how cute does she look?
I on the other hand, do not look this stylish/cute when I work-out. I wear t-shirts and shorts. It's simple. Ok, now that we have gotten the awkwardness out of the way I can continue on…..

The lovely ladies below have been whipping my butt into shape for 5 years. They understand me. They do not think it’s weird that I cram an aerobics class in before going out on a Friday night. They do not think it’s weird that sometimes I get up at 5:30am to do a quick aerobics class before work. Nope. In Jazzercise World this is normal behavior. This is why I love each of these ladies, because my weirdness makes sense to them. So yea...these are my people.

Celebrate Good Times...Come On!

These people are my heroes. They fought a tougher fight than I have ever experienced. They beat the odds and won. I tip my hat to all the cancer survivors around the world. You people truly are my heroes! Friday night we had 85 survivors show up to Relay for Life.

Another Relay for Life has come and gone. I must say this year was another great year. We rose over $85,000 and everyone had a great time. I was impressed with the way everything unfolded. This year Sister #1 and I Co-Chaired the Luminarias. I didn’t have time to take a picture of all of our bags, but I found this one on the Internet. We can pretend that’s me in the picture. However, I was not calm and collect like this chick. If you really want to imagine Sister #1 and me Friday night; imagine two girls running around like chickens with their heads cut off yelling at their family and friends for help! We was trying to light tons of bags, constantly burning our thumbs with the lighter, and making sure ALL the bags didn’t catch on fire. It was crazy!

Have you ever wondered what OKChick is like during the wee hours of the morning? If so, please scroll down to Exhibit A & B.
Exhibit A:

Around 1:00am we got this great idea for a picture on a fire truck. Don’t we look good for being up lots of hours? All of us girls had worked, ran around like crazy people, and been walking laps around the track. I think we look hot; literally hot because it was toasty outside. Sadly, the cute firefighters had to go rescue a house and didn’t see how hot we looked on their fire truck! Otherwise, we might have gotten some dates!

Exhibit B:

At 2:00am we felt the sudden urge to sing Celebrate to hundreds of screaming fan. Ok, fine not hundreds of people, but a large crowd and yes we had screaming fans. We were so good that everyone got up on their feet and started a Congo Line. This is just more training for my future job- Rock Star.

2 post for June

Blogger World, guess what? I’m going to be on the Food Network!!!!! Ok, not really. Actually, I didn’t even go to the casting call. I KNOW! I’m a slacker and I let you down. But it is a good thing I didn’t waste my Saturday on the casting call. Today I had this email waiting in my inbox.

The subject: CORRECTION for Casting Call.
Al Roker Entertainment, Inc. is coming to Oklahoma City in search of overweight individuals and families who are ready to join Mayor Cornett's Weight Loss Challenge. If you know of someone who has not yet joined, please pass on the following information.
So see…it’s a good thing I didn’t go.

In other news….
Last weekend Sister #1 and I took a stab at catering. We actually did pretty well. Here’s a picture of the food we made for a friend’s shower. I guess you could call it a success. No one became deathly ill after eating our food, and everyone seemed to really like the food that we made. We just did the food, not the cute cupcakes.
In other other news…
I’ve decided to challenge myself this month. This idea was stolen from Sarah. So thanks Sarah! Last month she posted a blog everyday. Well I have decided the month of June will be my month. I pledge to try to post something everyday this month. I’m not promising literary greatness, just a post. I’m calling it the….”Post a Day After May” challenge. Catchy huh? I think so.
EDIT- I rethought this whole challenge. I’m going to be realistic and admit I probably won’t post on the weekends. I now pledge to post everyday… M-F.

My famous friend

Soo this is my famous friend Lucas. He's on lots of commericals here in OKC and he was eve on Jay Leno. Jay interviewed him because he's the son of a bee-keeper. Really his dad does make honey, and it's really good.
If you need a good pick me up, check it out.
